I roleplay in deviantart rp groups. I always find myself a bit scared approaching people to rp because I’m afraid I’ll get misunderstood like I want to rp because they have good arts or I want to rp because they have less good arts. Confused?
For me, if I find their OC interesting, then I’d really want to rp regardless their drawing skill. But if they have better drawing skill than mine, I’d feel a bit scared if they’ll think I want to suck up like I want something from them (like arts and so on) and later they don’t rp with me anymore. If they have lower drawing skill than mine, I’d feel a bit scared if they’ll think I rp with them because I don’t want to feel bad of my own arts so I rp with those who draw less good than me (and they wonder too why I want to rp with them), and later they’re the one who will feel scared of me and avoid me.
How to really show that you’re really interested to rp with them regardless their drawing skill? How to erase all these worries??? *sighs* :(

well submitter! that’s a bit odd because i, as a roleplayer of 7 years, have never run into the problem of people wanting to roleplay with me because of my talent in art 80
usually great artists who have an interest in roleplay will keep art and roleplay separate! art isn’t even taken into the equation unless you ask them to draw a specific scenario or they want to draw that specific scenario themselves
if you’re really worried about artists getting suspicious of you getting close to them because of their art, i’d just have to say watch their art from afar! compliment it if you have to, but don’t make it such a driving force between the two of you! roleplay is something that, above all, means that the both of you should be having fun!! it’s a fun passtime and should be treated as such
and so long as you approach to ask people to roleplay for things that generally most people would expect (because the two characters would make good friends, a good couple, etc; they would get into weird wacky hijinks; they would just be Bad Ass together, etc) then i really doubt that anyone would suspect you of ANYTHING concerning art!
